Russian National Research Medical University named after N.I. Pirogov or formerly known as Russian State Medical University (RSMU) is an educational institute located in Moscow, Russia.The history began in 1906 when a medical school was founded as a part of Moscow Higher Women’s Courses. This opened up new prospects for attracting women to higher education, when in the country had a need for medical professionals.In 1991, 2nd Moscow State Medical School was transformed to Pirogov Russian State Medical University. Soon after that, the University established new faculties and developed novel educational programs: “Dentistry”, “Pharmacy”, “Clinical psychology” and “Social work”. All these directions quickly became competitive in the market of educational services in Russia.
Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University is one of the oldest medical higher school in Russia that is well known throughout the world. In 2016, the University celebrated its 110th anniversary.As one of the largest medical institution in Russia and Europe, currently more than 9200 people are enrolling in almost 115 different academic departments in this university.oday the University is a complex of educational, scientific and medical divisions and centers, offering educational programs of all levels in clinical medicine, biomedicine, psychology, social work and pharmacy.Since 1959, we have been accepting international students. Since 2013, we have been offering university programs in English, as well as double degree programs with European universities.The clinical base of Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University consists of more than 50 hospitals. The main are City Clinical Hospital №17, Perinatal Medical Centre «Mother&Child», Family Planning&Reproduction Centre, City Clinical Hospital №31, Russian Children’s Clinical Hospital.
Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University has 7 faculties. They are therapeutic, paediatric, medicobiologic, international, dentists’, pharmaceutical and psychologico-social faculties.

Student life and Hostel life in Pirogov
Hostels at Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University are newly renovated and furnished. Hostels have all facilities (Wi-Fi, kitchens, bathrooms, washing-rooms, laundry-rooms, etc.) with the good living environment. The students of Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University are provided with rooms for 2-3 people. Every student gets a bed, a mattress, a pillow, a blanket, a desk, chairs and lighting. The hostels are well heated and protected by security service.
Sports Life :
Sport and a healthy lifestyle are inextricably linked with each other, because physical training is the basis of a successful career and fruitful work. That is why we pay great attention to supporting sports clubs and organizing mass sports events at the university.
Today, the university has 18 sports destinations, including badminton, basketball, running club, volleyball, rowing club, darts, e-sports, table tennis, swimming, sambo, quick response squadron, strikeball, tourist club, fitness, frisbee, football, hockey, chess. They development is coordinated by the Student Sports Club “Everest”. It is a member of the Association of Student Sports Clubs of Russia and takes an active part in organising various sports events for all students and university staff.
